There is tons more that I would love to have .. but this is just what came to mind today at work.

Been busy

So I finally got all my gear, minus the DJ equipment, to my parents house. They gave me a room to setup as a studio. I started this project 3 weeks ago and helped my dad empty out the room and start to prep the walls for paint. Last weekend I went to Lowe's and bought some dark gray flat paint and started rolling. It really darkened the room, this is what I wanted to achieve, and now its time for some cool mood lighting. I want to make a calm workplace with minimal distractions. My father is a great guitar player but has a very busy schedule and needs a place where he can just walk in and play.

I moved my desk in and started assembling my 3 tier keyboard stand. I bought a small rolling cart for my Akai MPC-2000 but I'm not sure if its going to be sturdy enough for it. I have 3 more keyboards that need a place to sit but I'm sure with time we will find a place for them. I will post some pictures of the room as soon as I can.

Picked up a Alesis Micron

Did a trade for some hardware and acquired this Alesis Micron. I pretty impressed with it so far. The interface kind of sucks since there is only 3 -4 keys to do all editing with. So as you can imagine editing is kind of tedious. The sounds are pretty fat, not as fat as my Korg MicroX, but decent.

Cables .. I hate buying cables..

It just seems like a never ending battle of keeping cables around. Weather you play a venue or a house party it always seem someone walks off with a cable or two. I wanted to get some nice sturdy cables for my "Gun Case" and started looking around. I came across a company that makes the cables or sells you the bulk cable and ends.

The prices are not that bad and they have something that I have never seen, right angled MIDI cables. This would be perfect for my case since all the cables are routed under the foam.

Over the next couple of days i will be taking an inventory of all my "travel" cables and see what all I need to order.

Ready To Hunt... For Dancers?

I wanted something sturdy that could carry a few devices and not have to bag them individually. I came up with the idea when I bought a new air rifle and saw the cases I could buy. It looked perfect for groove boxes and such and it came with foam for $20.00, cant beat that. I have a few photos of it but I will take some the next time I get it out of the house and all hooked up.

Just a quick glimpse... The only problem with this is you will get some weird looks going into clubs and what not with a gun case. I was thinking of stenciling something on the outside to make it look not so "NRA" looking.

Cheap Case .. But Hard as Nails

So I have looked for a cheap answer for protecting my MPC2000 and could not find anything under $100.00. I was cruising the thrift shops with the wife when I found a old early 90's Ricoh fax machine. It was in a travel case, because we all wanted a fax to travel with.. It looked about the right size so I couldn't pass up the $10 price tag and it even came with a fax. So i took it up to the counter and told the lady she can keep the fax to see if she could sell it since all I wanted was the case. Got home and cut some of the foam inside and cleaned it up. This is what it looks like.

Thanks crappy travel fax and Salvation Army.

The Hunt for Records..

Me and my friend Alan took a little road trip Friday night and went to Santa Cruz to Logo's Records. The last time I went there I did not have enough time to really look around. There is only 2 sections that interest me, Electronic and House. A lot of records are out of place and not filed correctly but I think in the long run its worth it. I did find some really good house and break records but nothing to new. Saturday we went to San Francisco to Virgin Records. I had high hopes of finding some decent Electro House but I would have to pay retail prices. First thing first, I hit up the clearence racks and looked for labels I was familure with. Then I started picking up some random stuff just to listen to in hopes to find a "diamond in the rough". I think by the end of the day I had picked up about 15 records, so the trip was a eventful one.

EA-1 Back Up And Running...

Well.. The repair was not that bad. I removed the old pot with my soldering iron and a solder sucker. Put the new one on a soldiered it and gave it a test. I really like how tight the new pot is and I am thinking of replacing the one on my ER-1 also. Now that it is fixed I will be posting some pictures of my live setup.

EA-1 Parts Are Here!

My Korg EA-1 MKII has been down for a few months now because the volume knob has died. After hours of searching online to find a vendor that carry this pot and came across a company called "Parts is Parts" and they carry all parts for Korg. The only downside was the pot was 6$ and there is a minimum $15.00 credit card order. Not a huge problem since I did not want this to happen again so I bought 4 of them since they work in all MKII products.

Now comes the fun part.. the take apart and re-soldier.
